Luke Mossey – Cadwell Park

Luke Mossey and the Quattro Plant TECcare Kawasaki team had a solid weekend at round eight of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park. The 22-year-old from Royston was running well at a circuit he is not particularly fond of and gained a seventh in race one and strong fifth in race two.
Luke was running off the back of his podium at Thruxton a few weeks ago and was feeling confident as he came to Cadwell Park. He has struggled in the past here with the tight and technical circuit but felt at ease with the TECcare Kawasaki from the first practice session. He spent Friday finding a good set-up with the bike and on Saturday morning in practice three, he was fourth.
He was eager to get through to qualifying and secure a top ten grid position; Luke was sixth in qualifying one and easily went through to the second session. He was third in Q2 and made it to the final qualifying session in which he secured a fantastic fourth place on the grid for race one.
Luke got a brilliant start for the opening 20-lap race and shot straight through to second place behind Josh Brookes. He was looking comfortable and setting some strong and consistent lap times. He dropped back to third behind Peter Hickman and then the safety car was deployed at the end of lap seven after Danny Buchan crashed going over the Mountain. Luke struggled after the car came back in with front end grip but he still fought off the challenges from the four riders behind him. Billy McConnell made a harsh move on Luke at the bottom of the back straight running him wide and dropping him from third to sixth, unsettling his rhythm also allowed British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne passed him, Luke had to settle for seventh.
In race two, the British Superbike Rookie started from the front row in second place. Once again he got a fantastic start and was up to second at the end of the opening lap. He was locked in a battle with Peter Hickman and they exchanged places a couple of times, Luke thought about making a move on Hickman but sat up and went straight on through the chicane and re-joined in third. He was struggling with a bit of grip on the front end and dropped back to fifth after the 18 laps. He is now lying in 10th place in the overall Championship standings.
Luke Mossey – “I’m actually really pleased to have come here and leave with two good top ten finishes. It is a track I have struggled at in the past but the Quattro TECcare Kawasaki team provided me with a great bike all weekend, which certainly made my job easier.
I was very happy to qualify in fourth and to get the start I did and I was running with Brooksey for a while and felt really comfortable. I lost some grip when the pace car came in but was fighting for a podium. Billy (McConnell) did make quite a harsh move on me and instead of just losing one place to him I lost three, then another as it unsettled my race.
I wanted to make amends in the second race as I felt like I had good pace and wanted to get a good result for my team. I got a good start and was away with them, I was locked in a tight battle and really happy to have secured a fifth. I am looking forward to Oulton in a couple of weeks and hope we can continue making good progress like we have up to now.
