Aston Martin Red Bull Racing duo flaunt buggy skills before F1 season finale.

Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon have prepared for the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship season finale in Abu Dhabi with a desert outing in Honda dune buggies. Here is all you need to know:

– Verstappen is out to retain third in the driver’s standings from the chasing Ferrari of Charles Leclerc after the Dutchman stormed to victory in Brazil.

– With Thai-British rookie Albon producing seven top-six finishes for the team to lock down a 2020 seat, the pair arrived in Dubai in style in an Aston Martin DBX.

– Rally-raid biker Mohammed Balooshi was on hand to deliver pointers before the drivers got the chance to jump dunes and do donuts in their Honda Talon 1000X.

– Verstappen had previous experience of off-road racing, however it was all new for former Formula 2 star Albon who has enjoyed a fairytale first season in F1.

– Albon, 23, revealed: “It was good fun. It’s a very different feeling because it’s not like a circuit. On a circuit you know where the person is going to be going, in a buggy, one time Max is going on the right over a jump, the next time he’s half way on top of a dune and you don’t know which way we’re going to drift off to.”

– Verstappen, 22, explained: “It was great going out on the buggies again and doing things like this and camel polo is very Red Bull and something I really enjoy. It’s always great to try new things and we are lucky to get that opportunity with the team.”

– As for the first season with Honda power, he added: “Three victories and quite a few podiums is always good, but as a team and myself, we always want more so we are already looking ahead to next year where hopefully we can challenge for the championship.”

Teams from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Spain and the Netherlands, from Japan and China as well as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA have gathered at Kitzsteinhorn to practice their tricks in the perfectly formed superpipe. Alli Zehetner, who also built the halfpipe for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and his crew have shaped a 150-metre long and 6.5-metre high pipe that is as safe as it allows the riders to do huge jumps.

Snowboarders at the Superpipe Trainingsweeks include Olympic bronze medallist Scotty James (AUS), Junior World Champion Toby Miller (USA), 2019 World Champion, Yūto Totsuka (JPN), and 2015 World Champion, Zhang Yiwei (CHN). Among the female snowboarders is the third in the 2019 World Championships, Maddie Mastro (USA), the silver medallist of the 2018 Winter Olympics, Liu Jiayu (CHN), the two-time World Champion Cai Xuetong (CHN), the second in 2017, Haruna Matsumoto (JPN), and the two-time second in the World Championships, Queralt Castellet (ESP). Kicker Line, Easy Line and Jib Line are ideal for refining your skills or just having fun! Head shaper Martin Liebmann and his experienced team vouch for the world-class quality of the “Skatepark of Snow” and are already planning a second snow park: The Easy Park will open in December. Central Park will follow in January, South Central Park in February 2020. Additionally, the new Maisi Park at Maiskogel will complement the extensive offer in Kaprun from December 2019 with a Rail Line and a Fun Line, which will serve young riders as perfect preparation for the larger snow parks at Kitzsteinhorn.

K-ONNECTED: Kaprun – Maiskogel – Kitzsteinhorn
On November 30th, 2019, the time has finally come when the 3K K-onnection, Salzburg’s first tri-cable gondola and the heart of the K-ONNECTION, opens. From then on, the centre of Kaprun, the Maiskogel Family Mountain and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area with its 100-percent snow guarantee will be linked to form a single unit. From the 2019/20 winter season, Kaprun will be offering ski-in-ski-out to and from the glacier for the first time. The superlative 12-kilometre-long cable car line opens up unique panoramic views of Austria’s highest peaks and, with 2,261 metres, overcomes the highest difference in altitude in the Eastern Alps. In addition, two EXPLORER gondolas offer a winter discovery tour of a special kind. At the opening, the new cable car connection will be staged with spectacular illumination.
