Sifiso Nhlapo: "Putting the pieces together"

Courtesy of Red Bull

By Rajiv Desai

Sifiso Nhlapo aims to be healthy and injury free for 2013 as he tell us in this catch-up clip.

Life has sure been tough for Sifiso ‘Skizo’ Nhalpo over his career. Two major injuries have meant stop-start development for a rider considered one of the most talented on the race scene.

A broken back put paid to racing in 2009 but Sifiso was able to come back and podium at the 2010 World Champs. Injury disaster however struck again in 2011, when the South African tore his ACL and was once again sidelined for an entire season.

Given those injuries, you’d forgive Sifiso if he had any thoughts of retiring but this was far from him mind in 2012 when having recovered from his ACL tear, he participated in the 2012 World Championships in Birmingham with very little competitive action.

He qualified to the semis at the World’s so confirming entry into the Olympics. A reward for his hard work to get back 100% fit.

Now 2013 is on the horizon, Sifiso is hoping for an injury free season and some consistent displays in this year’s UCI Supercross and US Nationals championships. He’ll also aims to be a contender at the BMX World Championship, which is being held in New Zealand this year.

The first steps before all that is for Sifiso to get back in the groove of competitive racing again and that means putting in the hard work in early season training/racing. A trip to California in February beckons for that. We wish him the very best of luck.

USA BMX – 2013 Silver Dollar Nationals Video Review

Courtesy of USA BMX/PULL

The 2013 USA BMX National season kicked off with a bang in snowy Reno, Nevada last weekend. Even though the temps were cold outside, the action inside was on fire. Many pros were excited after it was announced that we would be running three main events this season. Three rookie pros made the main event on day one but none could match the power of Doublecross Bikes Blake Paulson. In the Veteran pro ranks, defending champion Cristian Becerine got his year off to a great start with a victory on day one. We also had some great racing in the USA Cycling Development class which features the fastest 14 and 15 year olds in the country.

USA BMX was there to catch all of the action on video – so be sure to log on to USABMX.com to watch videos of the title-chase main events.

MCS BICYCLES – HT SERIES FRAMES

MCS Bicycles is pleased and excited to release it’s new HT SERIES frame line. At this point the line consists of a 20” Pro (HT20PRO), a 20” XL (HT20XL) and a 24” XL (HT24XL). This line is a bit of a departure from our previous offerings. With an all new, updated look and the same proven race geometry, these frames are our best offering to date!

The 2013 HT Series frames feature:

  • The most notable visual difference is the Hydroform top tube. This is a huge departure from our frames in the past.
  • All of the HT Series frames feature a semi-integrated head tube.
  • The stand over height has been reduced by shortening the seat post tube. This has also helped with the updated look.
  • The dropouts on the HT Series frames take a design cue from the popular MCS Speed Freak frame, only beefed up a tad for aluminum construction.
  • Tapered chain stays accentuate the overall design and look of these frames.
  • A two-tone paint scheme caps off the refined, finished look of the line.

2013 Crupi BMX Race frames

Courtesy of CRUPI

After months and months of development, we are now happy to announce our all new 2013 frame line!  While we wanted to keep the iconic look of the Crupi frame, we also wanted to implement many upgrades and with input from our World Class Factory race team, we have come up with the best Crupi frame design ever!

Here are some of the features of the all new 2013 frames.  Feature number coordinate with frame features photo below.

1.  The rear chain stays have been changed to provide more area for tire clearance and chain clearance without making the overall width of the stays any wider; meaning there is no issue with crank arm clearance.  The back end of the frame truly looks nice!

2.  We’ve updated the gusset at the down tube and stamped USA in it so there will be no doubt that this is a hand crafted Made in the USA Crupi frame!

3.  For our frames with 1-1/8″ head tubes, we have now upgraded to integrated head tubes.  Not to worry as we are also introducing our new Crupi integrated headsets at the same time the 2013 frames will be available!  2013 frames with 1″ head tubes continue using standard 1″ threadless headsets.

4.  A larger diameter and differently shaped down tube is the biggest new feature of the 2013 frame.  Providing even more welding surface than before and having a much wider oval shape at the bottom bracket makes this new frame much stiffer than the 2012 model.  A stiffer bottom bracket area means more power transferred to the drive train!

5.  New colors for 2013 include Copper Sparkle Red, Grey and Neon Yellow.  The 2013 Crupi US Factory Team will all ride Neon Yellow frames as these really stand out on the track!  Returning popular colors for 2013 will be the Black, White and Candy Blue (same as our 2012 colors).

Other changes for the 2013 frames include a shorter seat tube making the triangle shape stronger and faster looking!  We’ve also changed the position of the seat stay tubes and are now welding them in the center of the seat tube providing more strength in that area.

Weight of the frames remain the same even though we’ve increased the size of the down tube and made the frames stronger.  However, the weight of our frames with 1″ head tube are slightly less in weight as we have made the size of the chain stays smaller.

New graphics finish off the look of the 2013 frame line.  These frames will be available around mid to late February 2013 and you can place your orders now.
