GT Cup – Round 2

The MJW Go&Fun Kawasaki team headed to Wilden Lane for the second round of the GT Cup this weekend. Most of the team riders competed at the weekend Rob Davidson, Dan Shepherd, Denny Rapson, Lewis Wood and Brad Woodage on their Kawasaki machines.
The track was damp and made the going hard over the weekend for all the riders. During qualifying Rob qualified in third place in the MX23. Rob Davidson boosted his confidence this weekend after struggling slightly at the opening round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at Landrake a couple of weeks ago. He was locked in a tight battle all weekend with Josh Waterman, he rode hard and finished the weekend in second place overall.
Dan Shepherd got average starts in his races which made the going tough with the tight track but he secured four top ten results which resulted in a top five finish overall. He struggled in the third race and had to battle his way through the back of the pack and finished in 15th place.
Denny Rapson found the weekend quite testing and suffered a few crashes and had to work his way back through the pack to try and secure some results.
Lewis Wood once again secured some solid top ten places in each race, gaining a third place in race two gaining ninth overall on the weekend.
Rob Davidson – “It was a good weekend; we came for a bit of testing before the Maxxis at Lyng this weekend. We’ve managed to find a good set up on the bike which should give us a good base setting for the weekend. I want to keep learning and improving on my positions in the British, it’s a massive learning year for me but looking forward to the challenges.”
Dan Shepherd – “I enjoyed the weekend, qualifying went well and I got a couple of good starts which gave me half a chance in the races. I was able to be consistent throughout the weekend and ended the weekend with some good results and I keep looking forward to the rest of the season and enjoying myself.”
Denny Rapson – “It was a difficult weekend for me and I didn’t get the results I was hoping for. I just wasn’t able to gel with the track and I just have to take from it some of the positive points and try and move forward now to the next round. Maybe it was a case of trying too hard and I need to relax a little more at the remaining rounds. The Kawasaki was great and really pleased with how the bike is working.”
Lewis Wood – “I felt pretty happy after this weekend and I had some good results which is a really good confidence boost. I made a few wrong alterations on the bike in the first moto, we got that sorted and I felt really good after that. I struggled a little on Sunday by making a couple of mistakes which cost me several places. I want to thank Mark at MJW Kawasaki, Go&Fun, SJP Moto, Twinair and my family for all their support.”
Brad Woodage – “I am still learning the art of racing and got boxed in several times in the races, I had a few offs and stalled the bike but it is all a learning process.”
I have good starts but keep getting boxed in on the inside, but I pulled through in some races. In the last one I stalled it and made a mess of everything but I tried my best. Everything went fine, I think.
Mark Woodage – Team Owner/Manager – “It was good to see Rob get his first pro ride podium last week and settle in nicely. Coming to Wilden Lane shows his speed against his rivals from last year, beating them by over 20 seconds. Josh Waterman put on a great show and pushed Rob to his limit to showing up a few issues we need to iron out for Lyng this weekend.
As for the youth squad it’s coming on great, Dan getting on the podium in 5th was a great achievement and young Denny has similar speed just needs to relax over the weekend and string it all together. Lewis had some great rides with a 3rd in one race, just 5 races over a weekend for the young 11 year old takes its toll on the younger riders but that will come with age and experience.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors who with out there support, we would not be racing especially K-tech with all the new development on their great new fork kit for The KX85, has progressed our riders so much in the last few weeks. Also a speedy recover to schoolboy Will Jeonney who has taken a few weeks out due to an operation he has had to undergo, so get well soon mate and speedy recovery.
