Hepher: ‘Asia Talent Cup a great platform’

On Monday, the selection process began at the Sepang International Circuit, after which 22 riders will be chosen for the initial season in 2014.

“Shell has a long history with motorsport in general and we are very proud of our association with MotoGP™,” explained Hepher, Andrew Hepher, General Manager Marketing Consumer Brands and Product, Shell Lubricants.

“It is also very clear that we want to make MotoGP™ more relevant to this part of the world and we see the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup as a great platform for building interest and for building talent.

“85,000 very enthusiastic fans were here for the race yesterday, which is all the more reason why we need to nurture local talent to drive that local interest even further and to keep building that momentum.”

For the selection process, the riders took to the Sepang karting circuit on-board 125cc Honda Underbone machines, watched by the likes of Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, Repsol Honda Team’s Livio Suppo and Talent Scout Alberto Puig.
