Dos Sertoes: Coma second in Stage 9

Courtesy of KTM

KTM multi Dakar winner Marc Coma came in second in the penultimate stage of the Dos Sertoes in Brazil and goes into tomorrow’s final stage placed third overall behind leader Paolo Goncalves of Portugal and Cyril Despres of France.

It was the Spanish rider’s fourth second place in the individual stages of this over 4000 km epic carving a big figure eight track through central Brazil. Friday’s stage took riders from Minaçu to Goianésia and the 666km stage included a 312 km timed special.

Coma has taken a top three place in every stage so far except for a setback in the marathon stage when a wheel problem slowed him down to a cautious rate and cost him more than 42 minutes. He then bounced back to win the next stage and today also narrowed the gap between him and long time rival Despres. He trimmed the gap to the Frenchman by more than 15 minutes and now only 11 minutes 30 seconds separates them. Meanwhile there is a 37 minutes 19 seconds gap between Coma and the race leader Goncaves. Both riders are fighting for points in the World Cross Country Rallies Championship. Coma is the current leader and title-holder.

KTM factory teammate Jakub “Kuba” Przygonski of Poland finished third behind Coma and moved from sixth to fifth in the overall standings. Both Coma and Przygonski are riding the KTM 450 Rally bike

Marc Coma: “I started with a slow pace to be sure not to make any mistakes. We were again in mountains and the first half was a dusty Enduro-style section before we had to tackle a faster section that was more enjoyable to ride. Tomorrow is the last day of the rally and the stage will be shorter. The rally is almost over today but with one like this, anything can happen.

The final stage on Saturday takes riders over just 290 kilometers, including a timed special of just 123 km.

YAMAHA ANNOUNCES TWO YEAR MOTOGP PROGRAM WITH POL ESPARGARÓ

Gerno di Lesmo (Milan, Italy), 2nd August 2013
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd is delighted to be able to announce that it has concluded a two-year agreement with current Spanish Moto2 rider Pol Espargaró. As a result of this contract the 22-year-old will make his MotoGP debut in 2014 with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team and will ride the Yamaha YZR-M1.

Pol Espargaró is enjoying his third season as a key protagonist in the Moto2 Class and is currently lying second in the Championship standings.

POL ESPARGARÓ VILLÁ – Biography & Racing Career

Born in Granollers (Spain) on 10th June 1991.

Pol Espargaró made his World Championship debut in 2006, riding seven races in total, the first of which at Catalunya made him the youngest ever points scorer in a Grand Prix with 13th place. That year he was also crowned Spanish National 125 Champion, second youngest ever behind his brother Aleix.

Pol’s first full season in 2007 delivered a podium, a series of strong results and the Rookie of the Year award. The 2008 campaign was one which brought further impressive results but was also marked by a collarbone injury, he went on to take a first victory in 2009 at Indianapolis and place fourth overall in the standings.

In 2010, Pol Espargaró was involved in a three-way season-long battle for the title with eventual winner Marc Márquez and runner-up Nico Terol, and in 2011 he stepped up to Moto2. Two podiums and a respectable 13th overall in the final standings laid the foundations for a promising season in 2012, for which Espargaró joined the Pons Racing team and made a huge impact. Tough battles, four wins, eight pole positions and a few controversies led to him taking runner-up spot to Márquez, making him the favorite for the 2013 title, for which he will fight with the same team.

This year, after a complicated start of the season, he arrives at the middle second overall with three victories and five podium appearances.

Mahi And Kawasaki Racing Team To Continue In Partnership To The End Of The Season

Courtesy of Kawasaki Racing Team

After the completion of a half-year agreement, Mahi and KRT have agreed to continue their sponsorship relationship right through until the last race of the season.

Mahi And Kawasaki Racing Team To Continue In Partnership To The End Of The Season

The original idea was use the Kawasaki effort to introduce the Mahi brand to the world by supporting Kawasaki’s official WSS activity, being a valuable partner in the great results Kenan Sofuoglu and Fabien Foret are getting this year for the Mahi Racing Team India squad.

Because coverage of Superbike World Championship racing is even more far-reaching, in order to support the WSS project Kawasaki decided to use the KRT Superbike project to give even more value to the Mahi brand. The original initiative covered sponsorship from round one in Australia to the most recent Russian event. The results were analyzed to make a decision about this partnership in the second part of the year. After the great results the Mahi brand achieved in SBK, with Tom Sykes and the overall KRT effort, they decided to continue the partnership until end of the year on the slightly altered basis of a sporting partner, on a separate agreement not linked with the continuing WSS project.

Steve Guttridge (Race Planning Manager KME): “The idea of Mahi’s original position in the Kawasaki racing project was to support the Kawasaki Mahi Racing Team India WSS team and we give thanks for the continuing support in this category. Everything was new for them and all the Kawasaki family will continue to help them to make the project as big a success as it possibly can be. Now KRT has made an agreement direct with Mahi, in a new scenario that we hope can be even better in the future.”

Arun Pandey, Chairman and Managing Director, Rhiti Sports Management: “This is our first year fully dedicated to introducing the Mahi brand to the world of motorcycle racing. We created a team in WSS and Kawasaki gave us the option to expand the brand into the KRT team for some races, to help us introduce the brand in India and all around the world. We are very happy and we can really feel how big an impact our Mahi brand has made. That’s why we have made a sporting sponsorship agreement, now direct with KRT, until end of the year. Let’s see if we can further improve our relationship in the future.”

Biel Roda (PR & Marketing Manager KRT): “We are very happy to keep Mahi with us until end of the year because is very important to have their help in supporting this project. We started this relationship because of their initial support for the WSS squad but now this agreement has become independent, supporting the KRT project on its own. We agreed with Kawasaki Europe, Mahi and KRT to give Mahi the “top sponsor” position in the first part of the year – to support the WSS project – and now we have made a “sportive sponsorship agreement” directly between Mahi and the team. We would like this to continue in 2014 and let’s see if we can build a long and strong relationship in the future.”

Gautier Paulin to miss Loket

Gautier Paulin, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider will miss the GP of Czech Republic. After his crash last week during the GP of Germany, the French rider continues to recover from his concussion.

Gautier Paulin to miss Loket

Coming back home on Monday, Gautier Paulin went for more exams this week and hopefully the native from Draguignan has no other troubles than a hematoma at his left leg. But after his concussion, he feels tired and needs some more days to recover and be able to ride his KXF 450 Kawasaki. “We spoke with the team, and we’ve decided together to postpone my comeback as I don’t feel 100%. It’s the first time in my career that I had a concussion, and it could be dangerous to race in Loket. I will continue to work alongside my doctors, in order to comeback as soon as possible to my best level” said Gautier who already won three GP’s this season and was runner up in the series before the German GP.
The Kawasaki Racing Team supports his rider in his recovery program, and shares with him the decision to skip the Czech GP, round 14 of 17 in the FIM Motocross World Championship. “We always said to Gautier that he has to take his time to recover, we want to see him back only when he feels ready. The crash was pretty hard, and he needs time to be fit again. We are all behind him,” said team manager François Lemariey.
