The bike is a freshly renovated and updated example of a 1976 Hodaka Dirt Squirt. Nate Ewer located a really promising Squirt on the Vancouver, BC Craigslist. The bike was very complete, but in need of resurrection. The seller, Terry Hartree, had owned the Squirt from new, and agreed to a great price, so the Club could acquire it.  The bike was super-original, and we even received the original owner’s manual and illustrated parts list!

The bike has been cleaned up,       inspected thoroughly, the forks were rebuilt and any needed “service” items like cables, points and rubber parts replaced.

  • Hodaka Dave Rozier has dismantled, inspected and rebuilt the motor
  • Ben Schenk has had the tank, rear fender and air cleaner top repainted with new decals added.
  • Gregg Floren has again refurbished the wheels & hubs. Wheel and brake assemblies were redone with new bearings, brake shoes, and spokes; hubs were “steel ball burnished” and new knobby tires, IRC – front and Kings – rear, were installed.
  • Nate Ewer, Project Coordinator, has handled chassis and overall refurbishment, working under the guidance of Hodaka Great, Harry Taylor, in “Harry’s Shed” (as it was named by VMX Editor Ken Smith).

The bike is being completed as an off-road, trail bike, as Hodaka meant it to be. It will natenot be a full-on restoration,     but will be a good looking rider, restored to mostly original form, that anyone would be proud of. It should be a very cool scooter!
